Pressure & Temperature Control on Lubrication Oil Skids
Industries: Oil & Gas Production, Refining, Petrochem, Power Generation, Cement, Mineral Extraction & Production
Media: Lubrication Oil, Steam
Valve Requirement: Pressure Reducing Valves (PRV), Back Pressure Regulating Valves (BPRV), Temperature Regulating Valves (TRV), Control Valves
Lubrication oil skids automate the preparation and distribution of lubricant oil. These systems prepare new lubricants and cool land filter returning lubricants for distribution at specific pressure and flow rates to mission-critical, rotating CapEx equipment.
Lube oil skids are used across a wide range of heavy industrial applications and are usually located adjacent to large rotating equipment such as turbines, industrial compressors, horizontal kilns, and large industrial fans and motors. Common installations include:
- Natural gas turbine generators (simple or combined cycle)
- Large electric motors for forced-air systems
- Ammonia refrigeration screw compressors
- Horizontal rotating kilns in clement and mineral processing
Industrial Rotating Equipment Lubrication
Lubrication delivery at precise pressure is not optional – the life of the asset depends on it. Lubrication is the blood of rotating equipment. Without it, this very expensive equipment will fail.
What Makes a Great Lube Oil Skid Valve?
Process skids are real estate hogs. The more compact the piping, valves, and equipment used – the better. The valves used must be accurate, and above all, reliable. If pressure specifications are not met or a valve fails, it could jeopardize production time or shorten the life of the CapEx equipment.
Jordan Sliding Gate Series valves are the perfect choice for these applications, as they are the most compact, accurate, and reliable regulators on the market.
Compact – generally more compact and lighter than the same line size globe-style valves, particularly in larger sizes. Cv selection often results in a sliding gate valve that’s a line size smaller than competitive globe-style offerings on the same application.
Accurate – the wide diaphragm, small valve stroke, and large spring selection deliver the highest accuracy – the smallest setpoint offset – available for critical pressure control.
Reliable – all Jordan valves are rugged and built to last a lifetime in tough industrial environments. Sliding gate seats are pre-lapped at the factory and self-lapping in operation, maintaining a tight shutoff over time.
Mark 60 & Mark 68G Series – Pressure Reducing Valves
The Jordan Valve Mark 60 Series sliding gate and the Mark 68G Series globe-style PRVs with Jorlon diaphragms are perfect for lube skid’s tough, dirty industrial operating environment. Both are more accurate (better droop performance) than competitive PRVs.
The Mark 60 offers best-in-class accuracy. Our 2″ valve is a little more than half the weight and three-quarters the height of other equivalents. The newer Mark 68G, particularly with integral flanges, offers a very competitive price relative to other competitors in this space.
Mark 63 & Mark 64 Series – Differential Pressure Reducing Valves
The Jordan Valve Mark 63 and Mark 64 Series with Jorlon diaphragms are ideal for regulating the differential pressure between the higher pressure in the bearing housings and the return / drain line pressure.
When to use a differential PRV: bearing housings need a stable pressure differential – not just a fixed downstream setpoint – to ensure proper oil film. The Mark 63/64 maintains a constant differential between the discharge side and the signal pressure on the diaphragm. The Mark 64 features a larger effective diaphragm for greater sensitivity and lower offset.
Mark 56 & Mark 586 Series – Back Pressure Regulating Valves
The Jordan Mark 56 sliding gate and Mark 586 globe-style air-loaded BPRVs with Jorlon diaphragms are perfect for lube oil pressure bypass installations like the one shown below.
Both are more accurate (better creep performance) than competitive BPRVs, and air loading delivers outstanding performance with the added feature of being able to automate pressure setpoints from the control one.
Mark 70 & Mark 75 Series – Sliding Gate Control Valves
Jordan Mark 70 or Mark 75 sliding gate control valves are used on lube oil skids for PLC-based lubricant pressure control. They are also used – as shown in the installation below – for automated pressure or flow control of steam for automated cleaning, and in colder climates, to deliver steam for heating lubricants.
Mark 86 Series – Sliding Gate Temperature Regulators
The Mark 86 sliding gate temperature regulator is the perfect valve to ensure that steam is provided to the lubricant oil tank heating coil, or to heat trace, when ambient temperatures fall below acceptable levels.
This is the ideal valve for systems providing lubricant to combined-cycle generation systems where steam is readily available. With its sliding gate seat design and sealed thermal system, the MK86 is both highly accurate and reliable in unattended outdoor service.
Why Lube Skid OEMs and End Users Choose Jordan Valve
- Sliding gate trim – pre-lapped, self-lapping seats deliver tight Class IV shutoff with no special tools for service
- Jorlon diaphragm – proprietary modified PTFE, tested without failure to over 1,000,000 full-stroke cycles ideal for steam, gas and lube oil
- Smaller footprint – sliding gate valves are typically more compact and lighter, often a line size smaller than globe-style equivalents on the same Cv
- Best-in-class accuracy – wide diaphragms, short stroke, and broad spring selection deliver the smallest setpoint offset in the category
- Quick Ship available – core MK60 and MK50 models ship in 5 business days, minimizing lube skid build time
- One vendor for the skid – PRV, differential PRV, BPRV, control valve and temperature regulators all from a single supplier
